Penrose Kennels was founded in 1974. My first interest was in working and hunting but as I later became interested in exhibiting I found the combination of both fundamental in the selection and quality of my dogs. Temperament and intelligence is uppermost in my requirements followed by structure, coat and size. This has led to Penrose dogs achieving the UK Top Dog award for Chesapeakes for the last twelve consecutive years and for most of the '80s, including six times Best Of Breed at Crufts, Group placings, Best in Shows, hundreds of championship show Best in Breeds and over twenty overseas champions and international champions.

In the mid '80s I enjoyed much success field trialling, breaking new ground by winning the very first Field Trial award with a Chesapeake in the UK. I continued to compete with a number of dogs winning more Field Trial awards and very many working test awards. I have proudly represented Wales on several occasions in international competitions with much success.
